Rage. RAGE against the dying of World War Z!

Unread post

My brain melts with you, internet.

The book, World War Z, by Max brooks is as follows:

After the end of the Zombie epidemic which nearly destroyed humanity, a UN researcher goes on a trip around the globe to record the stories of those who lived through it. It follows the rise of the zombie hordes, their spread, their destruction of every society, people being pushed to the brink, and the slow stop of that destruction, and eventual turn of the tide to reclaim the planet. It examines different cultures, different responses, different lifestyles, different religions, different reactions. It is a masterful, encompassing work.

It is special precisely because it is about the people and the societies, not the zombies. It uses zombies to tell a story about how people could react to a near-extinction event.

Personal stories about survival are inter-mixed with society re-building policies. It talks about the shift in demographics, the role nature plays in surviving, the shift in the balance of power... this book is PACKED with great ideas and narrative.

The movie adaptation on the other hand, is going to be about Brad Pitt racing around the planet trying to stop the zombie apocalypse... SIGH.

I sigh so hard my trachea almost fell out.

So, they're turning World War Z into ... i shudder to say it, the Excrement Evil franchise?

I loathe when they take a popular franchise and convert it into a movie, only to gut everything from it which made it unique and special.

Even DOOM. That was not a particularly compelling game. And even done perfectly, it wouldn't have been gone with the wind. The story of doom in the games can be summed up in about 4 sentences.

In the future we have colonized mars. An experiment goes wrong and they open a portal to hell. Hell invades, slaughters everyone. One marine must escape.

Fine. Not great, but we can work with that.

They didn't even stick to that. They only had to keep an eye on four sentences, and they didn't do it. They used the name, and a couple of monster designs, then just made their own thing.

I don't want to see your own thing when i go to see DOOM.

I don't want to see your own thing when i go to see World War Z.

I want to see DOOM, and i want to see World War Z. If you can't do that, then don't make it. Let somebody else do it.

Because not only does it make a dry husk of a movie with a warm poop center, it also deadens everyone's excitement about that franchise. What happens when somebody who wants to make the real adaptation comes along in two years? do you think THAT movie will get made? after everyone hated the first version?

And this is the thing. People will think that world war z is just like every other zombie story they have ever seen. They will hate it, or just be "meh" on it. But they won't be hating world war z. They will be hating the empty husk of a movie which stole it's name.

If this story is true, they should halt production immediately and let someone else do the movie. They obviously read the book and just didn't get it.

Are you pushing your own short comings on us and safely hating them from a distance?

Is this the virtue of faith? To never change your mind: especially when you should?

Young Earth Creationists take offense at the idea that we have a common heritage with other animals. Why is being the descendant of a mud golem any better?
