I've read it and would like to discuss it. Robert tulip said he was reading it, too.
Yes, I have finished it. I made some comments earlier in this thread.

I'll read and discuss the The Evolution of God. Will DWill be willing to moderate?

Since a couple of you have already read this one, perhaps we should consider one of Wright's other books, Nonzero: The Logic of Human Destiny or The Moral Animal. Both sound very good.

Or Joseph Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/157731 ... ss_product

Quote:
Wikipedia: The Hero with a Thousand Faces (first published in 1949) is a non-fiction book, and seminal work of comparative mythology by Joseph Campbell. In this publication, Campbell discusses his theory of the journey of the archetypal hero found in world mythologies.

Since publication of The Hero with a Thousand Faces, Campbell's theory has been consciously applied by a wide variety of modern writers and artists. The best known is perhaps George Lucas, who has acknowledged a debt to Campbell regarding the stories of the Star Wars films.[1]

The Joseph Campbell Foundation and New World Library issued a new edition of The Hero with a Thousand Faces in July, 2008 as part of the Collected Works of Joseph Campbell series of books, audio and video recordings.

I think it is just me and DWill that have read The Evolution of God. My view is that The Evolution of God is the best choice for Booktalk September-October non-fiction choice. Its status as a Pulitzer Prize 2010 finalist could well attract a wider discussion at Booktalk, and it addresses the common booktalk themes of evolution, religion/atheism, history and politics. I second the request for DWill to moderate. Having trawled the site for his comments on this book (see above), I think DWill has made an astute reading of it that could help to guide any discussion.

Thanks for the links to Wright's other books. People who are really keen or well informed might be able to read them as well.

Thanks also for the Joseph Campbell suggestion. As it happens I just bought a copy of the 1968 edition of The Hero With a Thousand Faces, and look forward to reading it. Tat Tvam Asi is a big Joseph Campbell fan (witness his avatar). If that got up for October-November, I hope Tat might agree to moderate a discussion.

Post Re: Sept. & Oct. NON-FICTION book suggestions
I think we should go with "The Evolution of God" for Sept. & Oct. This suggestion thread isn't getting much activity and half the people that left comments didn't even read the rules. I don't want to bitch as much as I want to thank those of you that read the rules and contributed to the thread so far.

With so few suggestion and the clock ticking I think it is in our best interest to just announce "The Evolution of God" so that people can order their books right away. So this is what I will do right now.
