National Poetry Month 2010

Unread post

The world has rolled back around to April and that means National Poetry Month. How do you plan to celebrate? Me, I will be chalking poetry on the pavement around where I live.

Saffron, I love that idea! Now that it's been brought to my attention, I want to celebrate National Poetry Month!! I always forget when it is and then it's too late.

I love the idea of chalking the sidewalks with poetry. I wish I could do that here, but the sidewalks around here are too broken and cracked, and since I'm only a block from the high school, the tromp of teenaged feet would ruin the words right away. Or maybe it would make them take a second glance and wonder what those words mean and who e.e. cummings is?

I'd like to think that last part, but I probably won't get around to chalking the sidewalks. I do want to celebrate somehow, though, so I'll be working on coming up with an idea. Any suggestions from fellow poetry lovers would also be helpful. *winkwink*

I do  poetry. :)

The photo is of the bike path near where I live and lots of people walk and ride it everyday. It is also right next to the high school, so lots of students saw it. Over the course of a week or so I wrote several poems on the bike path.

NB: Bleachededen, Saffron and I live in the same general area and I ride a bike along that bikepath nearly every day that I work. So, yes, somebody did stop to read it! I'm hoping that this year she might do something like the old "Burma Shave" roadsigns--where every mile or so there'd be a message or some kind. Then I could look out for poetry over the whole 12 miles. That may be a little more ambitious than she has in mind, though.

That would be pretty nifty, though. I'm glad the poetry is appreciated, both by the chalker and the bike rider! :)
