Women Romantic Poets

Unread post

Just wanted to mention the Women Romantic Poets, especially Felicia Hemans. I wasn't even aware that there was indeed a feminine Romantic movement competing with the Romantic poets one is usually more familiar with, such as Byron and Keats.
My daughter just finished her thesis on Hemans. I was expecting some very bad poetry (being that she was in oblivion for quite a while) but I have been more than pleasantly surprised. (Seems male editors of canon during that time were responsible as the general view was "women should be seen but not heard" ).
