Tell me more - was he musical?

Musical.....that is how my Mum used to refer to gentlemen who weren't the type to have wives! :laugh:
Only those become weary of angling who bring nothing to it but the idea of catching fish.

Well, fancy that!!! I just looked at that link you gave us.

He looks a bit too 'refined' to be a true 'Shropshire Lad'....

You know, I thought all that seducing young ladies, in the poem, didn't ring true.....

He does look rather dashing though.....Ah Me! What a waste.....
