Yes. I did read up on the symbolism. I think my issue with the story is that I do not care at all about any of the characters. Hard to be moved when that is the case. Perhaps I will re-read it again in the future.

I am enjoying Benjamin Button.
It's when I don't care much about the characters AND they're not that interesting that I have a bad opinion of a book. In the case of Gatsby, I do find the people interesting, or at least I admire the author's skill at portraying them.

Benjamin Button is like a fable, something quite different from Fitzgerald's other work.
