"Allahu Akbar" in Paris

Unread post

So evidently the Paris Christmas market shooter yelled "Allahu Akbar" before he opened fire..

https://www.nationalreview.com/news/chr ... aign=Crowe

Now we have insensitive left wing propaganda Muslim terrorist apologists like CNN informing us all what Allahu Akbar "really means"

https://www.cnn.com/2017/11/01/opinions ... index.html

A few random comments are in order here:

The old saying, "Not all Muslims are terrorists, but most terrorists are Muslim" seems applicable again. At least it has been over the past 20 or 30 years.

In our modern era it seems we have yet to hear of a terrorist screaming "Buddha is wonderful!" or "Jesus is Great!" prior to committing his or her murderous rampage.

Millions of Muslims utter the words "Allahu Akbar" every day and do not commit murderous slaughters because of it. For every one Muslim that does I can line up several thousand that don't.

Millions of people own guns and do not commit crimes or murders with them in hand. For every one that does I can line up several thousand that don't.

What must people running for their lives during one of these attacks think Allahu Akbar means? It likely means "You're going to f**ing die!" to them and I'm certain the people at CNN would be willing to argue about the definition after they've saved their asses during an attack. Seriously, it's amazing how oblivious the left can be. But that's what happens when your politics becomes no different than a religious ideology.

It doesn't matter what the scholarly definition of Allahu Akbar is.. What matters is what it means to the fiend that's screaming it.

Curious - no anti Trump blowhards posting about this here on Booktalk. What matters more in today's BT current events is the latest stupid tweet from Trump.

Nothing to see here!! Move along!!!

Is "Allahu Akbar" sometimes used as a battle cry? Yes, though as Sen. John McCain has argued on Fox News, that does not make the phrase itself abhorrent. While noting that "moderate Muslims" also say "Allahu Akbar," McCain said the phrase is no more troubling that a Christian saying "Thank God."
McCain was not a left winger, but he summed it up pretty well as quoted in the CNN article linked above.
But the way "Allahu Akbar" often appears in the media seems to serve a nefarious agenda: to instill fear of anyone who utters the phrase and to raise concerns even about Islam itself. But a lone terrorist who shouts "Allahu Akbar" while murdering innocent people in the streets of New York does not get to own that term. Nor do those who declare that no further details are needed to determine motive once a man with a Muslim-sounding name perpetrates an attack using those words.
Good points.

In contrast to your statement "...most terrorists are Muslim," about 2/3 of terrorist acts in America last year were caused by right wing extremists.

The shifting concentration of global terrorist activity can be seen in the following map. Terrorism post-9/11 has been concentrated in predominantly muslim countries as a result of radical Islamic ideologies and sectarian violence.
