no better way to get to know a country as by reading its myths and fairy-tales. i read maori myths
, korean myths
, chinese and japanease myths and legens (no links, because i didn't manage to find them). i loved african folk tales
and finnish fol tales.
for the non-mythology, i would suggest white shroud
and, of course jules vernes
is always good. his world view might not seem so amazing with all the technological advancements, but given that he was born just when the industrial revolution was happening, it's quite impressive.
