Hi Chris, as you would have noticed, I am still writing chapter comments on The Master and Margarita, and will finalise that this week. I would then be pleased to lead discussion on Nineteen Eighty Four. These two books have a lot in common as widely admired satires of totalitarian politics. I think the conversations that Harry and I have had on Bulgakov should be worth reading for others even if they have not read M&M, as we touch on some universal themes.

Hi Chris, when does the discussion for “1984” begin? I am new to this. Also, is it broken down by chapters or the whole book? Respectfully, Laura

I would like to join in if I may. Years since I read it and wonder if my reaction will differ now. I’m a great admirer of George Orwell.

Penelope and happyd75, please do join the discussion. We will keep 1984 open as long as people are enjoying the discussion and participating. Happyd75, if you enter the 1984 forum and just look at the threads it will all make sense. There is a thread for each of the 3 parts.

I would like to join this discussion. I think Orwell's book is a much ill-used book, bent to purpose more often than properly evaluated.
