'Finding Light in the Darkness' is a collection of blackout poetry and other ramblings through a journey of depression, love, loss, life and starting over.

I’d love to hear some feedback and/or your thoughts on blackout poetry. While I do write some traditional poetry as well, blackout poetry is my passion - my therapy. I love to share that passion with others by doing workshops and other events in my area, as well as engaging with the online community.

Thanks to http://www.DawnValleyPress.com for believing in my passion and making this book a reality. If you’d like to check it out, here’s the link. Reviews are always welcome of course!

Thanks everyone for taking the time to read this.

Can you explain to us what blackout poetry is? I only know the term as a reference to what happens to people that drink too much too quickly.

LOL...thanks Chris! Of course.

Blackout Poetry is a mixture of poetry and art made by taking any form of printed text and blacking out the unwanted words to create a poem or statement. Standard techniques usually involve a black sharpie marker, but have evolved into other traditional (and even untraditional) types of art mediums. I find it to be a look into the subconscious mind, a form of therapy if you will, that can promote mindfulness and creativity that can help overall well-being and mental health.

In my case, I’m upcycling old discarded books. It’s an interesting process creating a poem out of an already existing section of text. Also known as found poetry and erasure poetry.

Check out http://www.facebook.com/fadeintoablackout where you can see photos from workshops I have done with people engaging in the creative process.

All the best!
Mike
