I do not think he will be impeached.
I tend to think he is doing a fairly good job, although I do wish he would make less effort to offend his opponents.

I'm bumping this topic to the top of the forum and keeping it there. It looks like the possibility of Trump being impeached has gone up significantly.

Yes, a new poll would undoubtedly show almost unanimous opinion that Trump will be impeached. What could derail that now is hard to imagine. Maybe there's a very slight chance that Dems might choose censure instead.

Trump is going to be impeached. That's pretty much a gimme. I don't think he will be thrown out of office as much as deserves to be. I think he will resign because it's becoming almost by the day harder and harder for the republicans to circle their wagons around him. Everyday we learn something else Trump did that just throws fuel on the impeachment fire. I don't think a lot of these repubs feel they owe their careers to Trump to throw them away like this. Those that feared getting voted out if they moved against Trump are now realizing that all these stalwart red regions are suddenly turning blue in these early elections and that is a VERY BAD sign and are realizing they can't continue to support him because they stand at least as much chance of being voted out as in and that's too risky. They can't bring themselves to boot him out but they will go to him and tell him he must resign or they will be forced to boot him out. They may swing a deal with the dems to drop the charges against him if he resigns and I think the dems will acquiesce (remember, he will be charged by sdny after he leaves office and Congress can't do anything about that). Trump will resign despite all his bluster that he won't. He will. The game is over. He has no cards left to play. Every card they play now just blatantly looks like a desperation ploy ("We're going to charge Hunter Biden along with Trump!!" No you are not.) It's over now. Trump has to go. I don't believe most Americans even want to see him on the ballot because he's not trustworthy during elections. Repubs have a chance if they can nominate someone more palatable but I think that it's too late for that.

Brilliant analysis DB Roy. This whole fiasco is entertaining as hell but also quite exhausting an a bit depressing. I just can't believe our nation is in this situation. Does the incumbent president always get to run again?

From that I understand, they can definitely nominate someone other than Trump. Will they? Well, you KNOW they have to be looking into it. While they put on this united front supporting Trump--that's exactly what it is--a front. None of them care about Trump, they are in it for themselves. If dumping Trump will keep them in power, they will dump him in an instant. They know Trump demands loyalty so they are pretending to have any. They don't and no one had better be fooling themselves about that. Right now, I just think Trump is too much of a liability to be allowed to run.

Some democrats are against impeachment because they believe the republicans will kill the whole thing and Trump will emerge stronger. Well, the republicans MAY kill the whole thing but I doubt it will make Trump stronger. I think most Americans will be pissed about the blatant cover-up--that the republicans don't care if Trump broke the law, it's more important to keep their party in power. I think that will backfire on the GOP spectacularly.

Also, if Trump wins again, there are going to be a great many Americans who will believe the Russians helped again (which they will) and I'm not sure what the public reaction will be to that. There may be riots across the country and I may join in a few of them.

Well, you KNOW they have to be looking into it.

Exactly. They're all talking about it and I would bet most of them consider Trump an idiot who lacks any semblance of moral fiber. But they have to be very careful around him. Trump gets rid of anyone that questions him.

They don't care what Trump's reaction will be because he's predictable. There may come a time when having Trump's public condemnation will come in handy if they wish to dissociate themselves from him. What better way to announce it than to have Trump do it for them with the utmost venom? So I don't think they are worried about Trump getting pissed because they will use it to their advantage when and if the time comes. But right now, there is no reason to flee from him just yet. They think that by admitting there was quid pro quo but that's not a big deal and everyone does it will be enough to get Trump out of it. It might but I wouldn't hang my hat on it just yet. The problem is, of course, they denied there was quid pro quo first and then decided to come clean about when it became obvious that they can't win that argument. If it was no big deal then why lie about it? Why not say it from the git-go. Now it looks too contrived and not a genuine reaction.

Then there are guys like Graham. He's being accused of brown-nosing but I don't think he woke up one day and decided to brown-nose Trump. Obviously, he has an agenda that Trump has promised to put into action if only he will help him out of this mess. So Graham has agreed. And it wouldn't be just Graham. He represents a cadre of republicans trying to push this agenda--whatever it is. So far, I'm not impressed with Graham's method. First, it was "Show me evidence and I'll believe." When evidence is shown then it becomes "I refuse to read it anymore." That clearly says the evidence is damning and he can't defend it. But what else can Graham do? The next president isn't going to enact anything he wants and he knows it so Trump is the horse he must bet on. Right now, he might pull it off but I think his approach is weak and it probably won't work. But right now he has nothing to lose by backing and sticking with Trump. He'll lose everything if he doesn't.

So, 6% correctly predicted PSfB’s impeachment, congratulations . I did not think it would happen but good for the House of Representatives, they did their duty.

Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell have vowed to put the trial to rest as quickly as possible, denying the public an opportunity to witness a genuine senate shit show, which is what I personally was looking forward to.

The GOP congressional leaderships are blatantly repugnant in their intention to control the courts. Loading the courts with ideological judges for the sole purpose of longevity. They claim to be originalist in intent, that interpretation should not be allowed to create rights not specific to the constitution, but isn’t reversing earlier court decisions exactly that? Legislating from the bench?.

How is it that the party line vote for impeachment comes off as the worse impression of partisanship than the GOP obsession with conversion of the courts?.
