Eclipse

How many of you saw the eclipse today? I was in the path of totality, 8) and though I have seen pictures, etc. before, this was truly an awesome experience. :o :appl:

Since it happened from 2am to 4am in Australia, I stayed up late and watched the coverage at space.com. The highlight from my watching was totality in Idaho, with a big crowd awed out by seeing the corona and inner planets.

Cattleman, sounds like you lucked out. We were in the path of totality too (Franklin, NC), but about an hour before totality, the skies got very cloudy. It was still awesome, but didn't get to see the corona.

Sorry to hear that geo. The same thing happened to me a few years ago, albeit with a lunar, not a solar eclipse. And Robert, the small group gathered at my daughter's house also let out with some "Wow!"s and "Amazing!"s.

My wife, little boy and I were really excited to see the eclipse. In Florida we only had about 80 to 83% coverage so the day didn't become dark. Quite frankly if we didn't know there was an eclipse we would have simply concluded the sky is a bit overcast with rain clouds. But still it was an awesome experience and we kept our son out of school so he could experience it.

We bought a 10-pack of solar viewers and we passed out all but 1 to our family and friends. I was pleased to see my wife more excited than me about this event! She was sharing her viewer with the mailman and some contractors who were outside our home during the eclipse. It was a fun day for sure.

We made a cereal box viewer too. Just for the fun of it. I can say that the solar viewers you purchase are far superior to the shoebox or cereal box viewers so next time don't forget to order viewers ahead of time. There is another eclipse coming in 2024 that I haven't yet researched. But if we can get into the path of totality within the lower 48 states in the United States we're going to do it.

Thanks Robert!

There are quite a few places in the path of totality that I've always wanted to visit. I just talked to my wife and we're in agreement that making a family road trip for the next solar eclipse sounds fun. Our boy will be 13 years old in 2024 and if today is any indication of his future interests he'll be fired up about seeing the next eclipse.

Wow that one comes right near this town, I might have to drive only about 15 minutes North to see totality. After 38 years, thought I'd never see another! Also looks like the totality ventures into Nova Scotia so we'll be able to recreate Carly Simon's song!

Neat eclipse story:
