Having duped my tiny evil overlords into giving me some peace and quiet with bribes of sugar cereal and four hours of animated movies, I'd like to say hello.
Okay, look, I was charming once, but these days I call the game at coherent. To the meat:
I'm 30, female and residing just outside Clearwater, Fl. I'm married to a guy who's parents named him after a major auto manufacturer. We've got three kids, the smallest of which is due to enter the world the first week of May. I don't work outside the home, and I try to avoid working inside the home as much as I can because there's really only so many loads of laundry a girl can do before she needs a prescription for Valium. It's true, go ask your grandmothers.
I was a bigger reader when I was younger. From seventeen to twenty-four I was into nonfiction works about history, politics, economics, psychology and religion. I never became a Steinem variety feminist, atheist, or radical Communist so I was Terminally Uncool. To make up for it, I wore my shirts cut too low, drank too much, and had no standards in men.
These days I've returned to reading, but I'm more likely to pick up fiction over nonfiction. I'm already aware that everything is going to Hell in a hand basket, thank you, and I'm not inclined to count the myriad ways we can go about getting there. The last books I've read would be the Game of Thrones series. My brief opinion: Martin is the Stephanie Meyer of adult fantasy and Westeros is his sparkling vampire. I'll be reading the next novel, yes I will, and I will hate myself when I do. So, SO much.
I've decided to join booktalk.org because, frankly, I hate mommy groups, SAHM blogs, Facebook communities for home schoolers, natural childbirth forums and all the women involved in these things that I happen to be interested in. Trust me, there is no faster way to become organically lobotomized than by sitting around watching women alternate between offending one another and offering reassurances to the validity of each others lifestyle choices. I figure reading books and then discussing them might be a fun way to relate to other homo sapiens without risking a double-grande-vanilla-nonfat-no-foam-extra-hot latte invite from someone who actually can't stand me, but feels socially obligated to spend time with me for some unknowable biological reason. So here I am.
And apparently my time is up because somebody needs a snack, a juice, and a brain rotting super hero cartoon show to watch.
I look forward to getting to know many of you in that vaguely realistic unreal way which the internet provides for people to know each other. Maybe one day we'll become Facebook friends and mutually block each others feeds. Because ya gotta have goals...

Would leading with an old school "a/s/l?" be considered super lame or ironically trendy?
