Hello, my name is Larry Manch - I just joined the forum.
I am a husband and father, author, blogger, teacher, guitar player.
I write two blogs: one centers on rock and roll and other types of music; the other features sports and restaurant reviews.
Like many writers, I have a day job - I teach English as a Second Language at an elementary school in a large district in Central Texas.
I have written a novel, and I will begin a thread about it in the appropriate part of this forum.
It's nice to meet you all; I am happy to join your book discussions!

Hi Kevin. My music blog can be found here: 'The Backbeat'Kevin wrote:Hello Larry. I'd like to look at your music blog. What's the address?
Hopefully, I'm not breaking a forum rule by posting this link.
My blog contains stories about me and my years playing guitar in various bands, biographies of bands and musicians, history, how to..., and some book reviews.

I enjoyed reading "the toughest hundred dollars." I was really rooting for you to get paid. I was also thinking of the line, we play both kinds of music: country AND western. Well at least since the crowd wasn't drinking they weren't throwing beer bottles at you.
Now I think I'll go listen to some Flying Burrito Brothers... hot burritos 1 and 2... best in genre (I read that post too)
For that matter, who are some lesser known southern rock or folk artists you like? If you know of someone who sounds similar to let's say Nanci Griffith or Todd Snider or dear lord Gram Parsons or Townes Van Zandt let me know!

Re: Larry Manch, hello from Texas
Thanks Kevin - that was the strangest gig I ever played.
As for other artists, a new and spectacularly talented folk type musician/singer is Amy McCann. The link will take you to her YouTube channel. She works solo and also with her sister-in-law Julie McCann as the 'Hazy Maidens'. I wrote about Amy on my music blog in The Minstrel of Guelph.
Amy is an awesome talent (and so is Julie).
As for Southern Rock - Blackberry Smoke is fairly new and they have some interesting music. Their musicianship is generally outstanding; the songwriting not as good, but overall, I enjoy their music.
Check out Amy and her music. She also happens to be a friend of James Dylan, another exceptionally talented singer/songwriter. James has some great music on his own, but he is currently the lead singer for Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience. He sounds so much like Robert Plant that it is difficult to tell the difference.

You're definitely not breaking any rules by posting the link. We just try to keep people from joining, making one single post with a link to their own site/book/product and then vanishing. Active members are welcome to share their links.
