Dark versions of classic children's tales for adults

Unread post

I was on Amazon and for some strange reason they recommended this book series to me. Alice in Deadland. This is just another book I've noticed in a growing literary and Hollywood trend. Why do people feel the need to take classic innocent children's tales and turn them into dark tales only suitable for adults? How do you guys feel about this trend?
