As for me, I sort of created a web identity when I launched my blog (http://edith-lagraziana.blogspot.com) last December. Since then I'm using LaGraziana for all kinds of memberships and also the detail of a peacock butterfly as an avatar. Actually I picked the butterfly because its German name contains a reference to the fact that it's active only during the day and since I'm a very diurnal person (as opposed to night owls)...

LaGraziana refers to Graz, the town in Austria where I come from.
