Re: The infinite human

Unread post

Just watched The Prestige again. I was always thinking that it really spoils any scientific explanation that Tesla's machine could clone objects and living creatures. But what if Tesla's machine did not create clones, what if he was yet another illusionist? 'Edison's men' just played a role in extorting money from Aungier. Tesla planted a cat double and a bunch of hats as a trick, which Angier cleverly picked up. In the meantime, he has found at least one more double (he had one in London already). We saw Angier having killed one of the doubles in a scene with a shotgun, and drowned another one. We did not actually SEE more clones, did we? Or, does Aungier have twin (or even triple) brother too? In the final performance, Aungier could have watched from backstage, and only killed his double when he saw Borden sneak backstage. Or, maybe Aungier had some other trick that has not been revealed to the audience? The very last words of the movie, with a Aungier-looking body in a water tank are 'You're not really looking, you don't really want to work it out, you want to be fooled'.
