I meant as a co-mod or interim mod until she finds her way back here.
I have another one from my head, I think it was Ogden Nash since he seems to have made most of these types of poems, but I couldn't find it on the internet to verify his authorship:
The Camel
The camel is a mammal
by Arabs highly prized
I rode one once, like a dunce
And got a huge surprise
It looked so easy, cool and breezy,
Camels must be fun!
So up I got and let it trot
under the desert sun
Oh Rock-like hump
With every bump
My pants did rise in air
Till on the ground
myself I found
(the camel went elsewhere)
The camel is a mammal
By Arabs highly prized
Let them ride, I'm satisfied
To be mechanized!
I also remember one about a panther...
The panther is like a leopard
Except it hasn't been peppered
Should you behold a panther's crough
Prepare to say "ouch"
Better yet, when called by a panther
Don't anther

Those are great, frog.
I love the lisp at the end of the panther one. Two dings!!

Re: Poem on your mind
Thanks for the poems froglipz, I really like the Camel especially the line "Oh Rock-like hump With every bump My pants did rise in air". My kids got to ride a camel once and what struck me was how tall camels are and how high up my kids were ... I couldn't help feeling a little parental concern about what would happen to them if they fell off the camel like this dude does in the poem. I was wishing I had a handy bike helmet or something.
And maybe Penny could be interim poetry forum moderator. You have my vote. As to what happens on this forum, I really like having a 'poem a day' from some source or other. Just something interesting to read over a cup of coffee and maybe post a comment.

I definitely enjoyed that format through the 500 and part of the Rattle Bag. Anyone have an anthology suggestion?

The Lama
The one-l lama,
He's a priest;
The two-l llama,
He's a beast.
And I will bet
A silk pajama
There isn't any
Three-l lllama.
Also Ogden Nash
My parents would always end that wirh
A three l lllama is one heck of a big fire!!! (they were volunteer firemen)
Another poem from my childlike brain this one by Laura Elizabeth Richards
Eletelephony
Once there was an elephant,
Who tried to use the telephant—
No! no! I mean an elephone
Who tried to use the telephone—
(Dear me! I am not certain quite
That even now I've got it right.)
Howe'er it was, he got his trunk
Entangled in the telephunk;
The more he tried to get it free,
The louder buzzed the telephee—
(I fear I'd better drop the song
Of elephop and telephong!)

Re: Poem on your mind
Frog; not sure about the camel, but "The Panther" was definitely written by Nash. My favorite in his bestiary is "The Hippopotamus."
Behold the hippopotamus!
We laugh at how he looks to us.
But in those moments dark and grim,
I wonder how we look to him?
Peace, peace o' hippopotamus!
We really look all right to us.
As you no doubt delight the eye
of other hippopotami.

Good idea, I'll have a lookout for an interesting anthology and maybe others have suggestions and then we can pick one and post poems on a daily basis ..froglipz wrote:I definitely enjoyed that format through the 500 and part of the Rattle Bag. Anyone have an anthology suggestion?

I am missing everyone so much, it hurts.....
How odd, that when we have been talking on the interweb for a year or two....we miss one another....
Well, maybe not so odd. xx
