Only those become weary of angling who bring nothing to it but the idea of catching fish.

Thanks, yourkst, for mentioning Copland. My favorties by him are pieces from two of his ballets: "Hoedown" from "Rodeo," and "Simple Gifts" from "Applachian Spring."
I am listening to "Simple Gifts" as I write this.
Sorry, I don't know how to link the website here.

Cattleman, Do you know 'Lord of the Dance'?
These are the words we sing in our churches to the 'Simple Gifts' tune. I used to like singing this one and I rather miss it:-
Sydney Carter
Lord Of The Dance
I danced in the morning when the world was begun
I danced in the Moon & the Stars & the Sun
I came down from Heaven & I danced on Earth
At Bethlehem I had my birth:
Dance then, wherever you may be
I am the Lord of the Dance, said He!
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said He!
I danced for the scribe & the pharisee
But they would not dance & they wouldn't follow me
I danced for fishermen, for James & John
They came with me & the Dance went on:
Dance then, wherever you may be
I am the Lord of the Dance, said He!
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said He!
I danced on the Sabbath & I cured the lame
The holy people said it was a shame!
They whipped & they stripped & they hung me high
And they left me there on a cross to die!
Dance then, wherever you may be
I am the Lord of the Dance, said He!
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said He!
(...lead you all in the Dance, said He!)
I danced on a Friday when the sky turned black
It's hard to dance with the devil on your back
They buried my body & they thought I'd gone
But I am the Dance & I still go on!
Dance then, wherever you may be
I am the Lord of the Dance, said He!
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said He!
(...lead you all in the Dance, said He!)
They cut me down and I leapt up high
I am the Life that'll never, never die!
I'll live in you if you'll live in Me -
I am the Lord of the Dance, said He!
Dance then, wherever you may be
I am the Lord of the Dance, said He!
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said He!

Re: What song is stuck in your head today?
Penelope: That is one I have not heard. Actually, I first heard Simple Gifts when it was used as the theme for a weekly news documentary. It was played with a slower beat and in a lower key.
Funny, the mention of dance. I remember a passage in the Old Testament about David dancing before the Lord. Growing up the rural southern U.S., there were many fundamentalist denominations in our area who taught that dancing was a sin (No, I did not belong to one). Then I got to college where I discovered that dancing was not considered a sin, but was a socially acceptable practice, and a great way to meet girls.

Payphone by Maroon 5 has been playing over and over again in my head.
And, it's torture. I can't stand the song.

In the absence of God, I found Man.

Are you pushing your own short comings on us and safely hating them from a distance?
Is this the virtue of faith? To never change your mind: especially when you should?
Young Earth Creationists take offense at the idea that we have a common heritage with other animals. Why is being the descendant of a mud golem any better?

johnson101, that girl is amazing! How did you discover her??
I just subscribed to her YouTube channel and am listening to a few more of her songs. What a voice....like an angel and that is coming from an atheist. Wow.
Thanks so much for sharing this with us.
