Re: James Fenton's Introduction to English Poetry
What a great way to start my day - poetry! Thanks for posting. Will there be more articles or was this a one time plug for the book?oblivion wrote:James Fenton is doing an introduction to English Poetry in The Guardian.

I'm not certain since this is not a new book. But the Guardian seems to be running it again.

Re: James Fenton's Introduction to English Poetry
This book is in my computer bag and I read a few pages now and then. (It's a nice small little book.) Fenton goes into a lot of really esoteric stuff, but now at least I have a sense of iambic tetrameter, trochee, and trochaic rhythm. Interspersed throughout, of course, are samples of poetry, Blake, Tennyson, Shakespeare, etc. The book is copyrighted 2002, so it's interesting that The Guardian is excerpting it now.
