Argh, as Captain Ahab may once have said, although not in Moby Dick, as a pdf search reveals.
Herman Melville wrote:Call me Ishmael. Some years ago--never mind how long precisely--having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world.

Thanks for the links. I was very surprised to find that the free copy I had from Gutenberg also had notes which must have been made after 2004. I had thought there would be either no notes, or very old ones.

Many thanks Robert. I've started reading it, and must say I have been pleasantly surprised.

To my delight I found I had one of those free dvd's of the film that newspapers often give away. Although was very good, was quite annoyed cos I thought Queequeg was not portrayed as in the book, they missed a lot out. Must say Robert. this is another very good choice.
