One Hundred Years of Solitude

Unread post

As I read this book, I kept waiting for the characters to develop, for something interesting to happen, or even for the plot to move in some discernable direction, but Marquez managed to somehow avoid anything resembling these characteristics for over four-hundred pages. The book ended up exactly where it started. If there is anything to say about it, its that it is a book that effectively negates itself. Has anyone else read this supposedly "important" work? I'm an open-minded person. What am I missing? I just didn't find reading it enjoyable.
