NEW TO BOOKTALK

Unread post

Yeah, so looks like I'm the new guy....again. If anyone wants to reccomend a specific forum or group, please do so. Currently I am reading many Kerouac novels, William S. Burroughs, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Neal Stephenson, William Gibson, and rereading some Faulkner and Joyce. So please send me a heads up if you have any ideas! Thanks.

First of all, welcome to BookTalk! How did you find us? ...thru a search engine? Let us know as this info helps us know how to advertise the community. We're always looking for more people to join us in our discussions. It will take a little surfing around to totally get the swing of things here. I'm in the process of editing the "About" page so don't count on that page as a means of understanding how we operate. The easiest way is to jump into the forums and look around. We read one or more nonfiction books each quarter. As you can see on our home page and by the forums on our forums page we're currently reading two different nonfiction books. We've got more than a month left of the current quarter, so there is plenty of time to get a copy of either or both book and start reading/discussing.Our fiction is handled a little differently. We have not totally figured out the best way to handle things, when it comes to fiction, so if you become active on our boards you can help us decide the best format for this aspect of the community. We're trying to determine if we want to do fiction books for 2 or 3 months in duration. Everyone has a different opinion, so don't expect a quick resolution. Some fiction books are easy reading (or boring) and we will want to finish them within even one month. Other books are more intriguing and we will, as a community, decide that we'd be best served by a longer reading period of perhaps 3 months.Visit the various forums and look around and you'll get the hang of things. In time we'll have more accurate "About" page.Have you been to our Books page? Explore the top orange link bar and you'll learn more about the community. We've read many books that you would probably enjoy or have actually enjoyed.Again, welcome to the community. Please consider this thread your own personal thread. You can make periodic posts and let people know what's going on in your world. Edited by: Chris OConnor  at: 8/25/06 8:27 pm

Welcome! It sounds like you would be interested in joining our fiction book discussions. That would be a good place for you to start. As Chris mentioned, check out all of our forums to see what interests you. You may start posting in the fiction threads, then find that there are topics in other forums that you enjoy reading about and posting on. Have fun!
