Re: When do children develop their own convictions?

Re: When do children develop their own convictions?
All apologies if I sounded facetious, if you've been in the trenches with kids of your own I certainly respect your opinions. Regarding the child not wanting to do the pledge I do think that was following the model of his parents. But with his peers watching that he still maintained his stand...some...

Re: When do children develop their own convictions?
From the way this question is posed I'm assuming that perhaps you don't have children of your own. Of course there are a whole bunch of variables to this question too. My answers are just based on observations of my own offspring over several decades. IMHO until a child is about ten years old they d...

If I May Suggest a Book for a Group Read
"The Hot Zone" by Richard Preston. With the return of Ebola as an epidemic, far more so than the time period of this book, it's a significant topic to discuss. I've just started re reading it.

On the news last night is a teacher from the local high school arrested for getting frisky with three 15 year olds. Then it gets worse, two more students came forward today. She was a single mom, her ki...

Re: Would gun control work?
VallHall, how can you not see how mental illness might be tied in with gun violence? Someone with anger management issues isn't a textbook case of mentally challenged necessarily however having access to firearms might lead such an individual to use it to solve an injustice. Lacking a weapon the ind...

Re: What are you currently reading?
I picked up "Diary of a Mad Diva" two days ago, when they move you out of ICU when you're still on life support, they're getting ready to let you go. It's entertaining junk reading...if you had taken one of my beloved aunts and given them a fifth plus a case of Red Bull.

Re: What makes a book good to read ?
That's a hard question to answer except to say personally the three possible signs of a good book for me are either: A Something so dramatic and well crafted that it pulls you in from page one-I'm thinking "The Oath" or "All Over But the Shoutin", both take you right into the sto...
