Looking for long lost book

Unread post

Hi! Way back in middle school, circa 2003 I read a historical fiction novel, my first. The problem is, I can't seem to remember its title. I've come here for help, in a somewhat Hail Mary-esque way.

Here are the details I remember about the book.

-Set during the American Civil War.
-The protagonist was a girl.
-There was a scene in which said girl looks outside a window and sees both sides fighting in the field.
-Borrowed from Jefferson Parish Library in NOLA.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, this book sparked my love for historical fiction and means the world to me.

Thanks in advance

Brings to mind The Widow of the South, but the book came out in 2006.
