Re: Henry Rollins: Why I Am Not An Atheist
As a 3rd generation native of Los Angeles (we are now 5 generations deep) i can attest to the fact that the LA Weekly is garbage. A family member of mine would lay out the paper version (true story) for her pets to crap and piss on in the back porch.
Thanks for taking me down memory lane and reminding me why the LAW is good only for the above, Roy...i knew I could count on your intellect for something.

That article didn't make any sense. I'm no closer to understanding his position on atheism than prior to reading his explanation.

It’s 0107 hrs. on Feb. 17, 2015. I have just returned from the Griffin in Atwater Village. Fuzz and Thee Oh Sees played a free show. I am such a fan of these bands. I stood in a highly packed room. Both groups completely ripped it up.
He hangs out in Atwater Village. This explains his intellectual lazy drivel.

Re: Henry Rollins: Why I Am Not An Atheist
i made sense of it without much problem.
I hereby submit my vote for saddest little troll on BT of the year, it's ant hands down.
HR wrote:being told to go fuck yourself by the same person who was, only days before, praying on your behalf.
the ego as Yahweh.HR wrote:It’s about the notion of authority this person is employing in an attempt to control others.
and ant, i can always count on you to be a sad little impersonation of a manant wrote:Roy...i knew I could count on your intellect for something.

This is pretty bad, I guess he's saying believing in God is good because it keeps people in line, and he likes that people defend their beliefs when challenged.
But instead of actually defending any beliefs, he just does some stream of consciousness writing that he probably thinks seems profound.

Re: Henry Rollins: Why I Am Not An Atheist
Rollins may not be an atheist, but he sure is a strange and confused theist, rather like a few of the posters on BT.
He seems to base his belief system on two things. One is "people need leadership and rules to follow." Then he implies if we don't have religion, "Freedom is great, but the freedom to drive over someone and go on your way isn’t." Rollins appears to be another moral theist who believes if he lost faith in eternal punishment, he would become a serial rapist/murderer/arsonist/mega-SOB.
The other basis for Rollins' beliefs seems to be the existence of faith. It takes hard work to believe in something especially without or in spite of evidence, and you must defend that powerfully! He likes that, but gives two horrendous examples of faith: the Westboro Baptist Church and those who believe Obama was born in Kenya and will never waiver no matter what evidence is provided. Ugh. Plus he loves to "eff" with christians on email despite knowing they will never waiver in their beliefs.
Well, perhaps that cleared up a few things, but it's still a mess.
On edit: Dexter said it much more succinctly.
