Im sure most people have heard of this book, Go Ask Alice. Which was written by a teenage girl back in the late 60's. This girl (who's name is never actually mentioned, to keep confidentiality) (but lets call her Alice, it makes it a lot easier) is not writing a story for herself or anyone else, she is just keeping a diary, as many teenage girls do. She got into the horrible seductive world of drugs, and tells all about it in her diary. She is actually a smart girl, who is quite articulate, and has a great talent for imagery. When she told about her highs and her lows, you felt as though you were there, and you had done the drugs also. Well Im not going to go any farther into the book, for those who havent read it. IF YOU HAVENT READ IT, GO GRAB IT FROM YOUR LIBRARY OR SOMETHING AND READ IT. IT SHOULD TAKE LESS THEN 4 HOURS. With that said I can get to the point of this thread. Can anyone please tell me anything/everything they know about Alice or the book. The ending made me "high" persay, I was sitting there in my classroom, just glaring at the last page, thinking, "NO!" "It can't end like that!"Well I am on a goal to find out whatever I can about this book. I have read some speculations about how one of the editors of the book/diary Beatrice Sparks. She has apperently "edited" many teen diaries so this story could be totally fabricated, (which by the way, I truely hope its not, I just wish the ending was added or something.) I am currently trying to track down anyone who might now anything about anything to do with this book. So basically what I am asking for is anything. Your views on the book, speculations, etc. Thank you,
I was just wondering if you had found out anything about go ask Alice. I also would like to find out anything that I can. I would really like to find out what happened to "Alice" because the ending of the book was unclear. If you do have any information and would like to share that would be great. I will continue to try and find out anything and everything I can. Thanks
I have read that Go Ask Alice is a complete fabrication from beginning to end - a novel, not an autobiography with a bit of editing. I will try to find the articles on this online, as I'm sure they must be.If you've read Go Ask Alice, ask yourself if any teenager actually writes like that - even a teenager at the time that the book came out. I remember reading it as a kid and while being quite gripped by what was going on in the life of the unnamed protagonist, finding the book itself not as well written as the hype would have me believe. Years later reading that it was a novel by an adult writer who specialised in 'teen issues' fiction, everything made so much sense. This doesn't necessary lessen the moral of Go Ask Alice, but it does raise the question of the publisher's marketing ethics. However, YMMV. Tomorrow, in my experience, is usually the same day.
