For me personally it would be a tie between A Good Secret Place by Richard Laymon from Fiends or Gramma by Stephen King from Skeleton Crew.

I can't remember what it was... it was the first story in the first "Living Dead" zombie anthology..

Pit and the Pendulum by Edgar Allan Poe. However, a close second is Apt Pupil by Stephen King in Different Seasons.

I would love to discuss Poe or Stephen King. Unfortunately, I haven't read much Lovecraft because I find his books difficult to locate.
