Faulkner's late addition to the S & F
If your edition included the material Faulkner provided for the Portable Faulkner in 1948, what did you think of his take on his own characters? I was truly puzzled by his description of Jason IV as the only sane member of the Compson family. How could F mean this? Jason certainly doesn't act sanely towards the end of the story when trying to track down Caddy, but even in general, calling Jason sane seems to set him above the others in way that doesn't seem deserved.
