Can simply viewing a sunset photograph actually lower your stress?

Professional photographer Michael B. Hamilton takes his images to a level that no other photographer has gone. He has discovered in a clinical research trial that his tranquil sunset photographs are medicine for the mind and body. Dr. Cara East, a Cardiology, Diabetes, Endocrinology & Metabolism Doctor, and Director of the Clinical Cardiovascular Research Center at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas say’s “Stress is not just a TV sound bite. Stress is a real, biological result of having conflicting priorities, and it has very real effects on our body.” The real effect on our body is the fact that the American Heart Association relates that “Coronary heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death in the United States, while Stroke is the No. 3 cause of death … and a leading cause of serious disability. “ Mr. Hamilton, through his own experiences and a Clinical Research Trial has found a remarkably simple and inexpensive way to reduce these risks. Looking at sunset pictures!

The Book features 48 sunsets taken in a variety of locations. According to the study by simply taking a few moments out of your busy day and looking at one of these photos, your blood pressure and anxiety levels will reduce. “Think of the potential” exclaims Mr. Hamilton “the beauty of my book, is that you can take it anywhere, and look at it anytime. Of course you can go out and find your own sunset, but many of us lead to busy of a life, or the weather is not cooperating. You can pack this book up in your travel bag, have it near your bed, or take it with you easily where-ever you go.”

With the rising costs of health care and peoples busy lifestyles, the research conducted on this book has many beneficial effects for everyone. Dr. Mary Wingo Ph.D. a clinical stress researcher and stress reduction seminar speaker points out that “These results tell us that viewing the aesthetically pleasing sunset photographs taken by Mr. Hamilton has a marked, positive effect on an individual’s psychological and physiological stress response. The implications are enormous for a simple photography book featuring sunsets, and may be of great therapeutic value in a variety of medical situations. “

The stress reduction claims are not without some powerful backing. Dr. East is fast to point out that “When we stop and take some time to watch the sunset, we are cooperating with the relaxation system. You can sense these feelings even as you look at these stunning sunset photographs. You can feel the quiet, the easing of busyness, the restoring of ourselves. So enjoy the jewel-like beauty of some of these remarkable moments captured in this book by this talented photographer.”

Nothing to do with your health  , just feel it is beatifully written.

A young man sees a sunset and, unable to understand or to express the emotion that it rouses in him, concludes that it must be the gateway to a world that lies beyond.
It is difficult for any of us in moments of intense aesthetic experience to resist the suggestion that we are catching a glimpse of a light that shines down to us from a different realm of existence, different and, because the experience is intensely moving, in some way higher.
And, though the gleams blind and dazzle, yet do they convey a hint of beauty and serenity greater than we have known or imagined.
Greater too than we can describe, for language, which was invented to convey the meanings of this world, cannot readily be fitted to the uses of another.
That all great art has this power of suggesting a world beyond is undeniable.
In some moods Nature shares it.
There is no sky in June so blue that it does not point forward to a bluer, no sunset so beautiful that it does not waken the vision of a greater beauty, a vision which passes before it is fully glimpsed, and in passing leaves an indefinable longing and regret.
But, if this world is not merely a bad joke, life a vulgar flare amid the cool radiance of the stars, and existence an empty laugh braying across the mysteries; if these intimations of a something behind and beyond are not evil humour born of indigestion, or whimsies sent by the devil to mock and madden us, if, in a word, beauty means something, yet we must not seek to interpret the meaning.
If we glimpse the unutterable, it is unwise to try to utter it, nor should we seek to invest with significance that whichwe cannot grasp.
Beauty in terms of our human meanings is meaningless.

And yet what can we grasp what we do not have. Capture what we want to instill. Be mesmerized by what we seek. Clearly through photographs can we capture that time, that energy, which makes us so real. To enjoy what we cannot find and be a part of which we only seek is truly the beauty of a sunset photo.
