Aanadien - Hi

Unread post

I just got here. I've been reading Bloom's The Lucifer Principle and hit a particularly bizarre passage. I Googled to check for obvious signs of lunacy, and a the search led me here, among other places.Sorry about tracking dirt all over the carpet. Having taken a look around, I think I might make myself at home here. I gather it's customary for new users to introduce themselves so here I am.I'm a computer programmer with a degree in Physics, I read a lot and I live near Los Angeles.Recent books I've enjoyed a great deal are Stephenson's Cryptonomicon, Gould's Wonderful Life, and Jenkins' Churchill. Anadien,Wow! That's cool that you stumbled upon BookTalk that way. We're thrilled to have you here. We just finished up Global Brain by Howard Bloom and now we're starting Atheism: A Reader by S.T. Joshi (not Saint Joshi). I look forward to your contributions in the discussions. Cheryl

AanadienWelcome to the freethinkers book discussion community. Like Cheryl, I'm thrilled that a search on Google led you to our community. And I sure hope you decide to call BookTalk home. Quote:I've been reading Bloom's The Lucifer Principle and hit a particularly bizarre passage.I ran across numerous bizarre passages and would love to hear which one you're referring to. Scroll down the forum list till you come to the one for "The Lucifer Principle," and feel free to comment there. These forums never die and you just might spark some interest in discussing this text further.Oh, and please note Howard Bloom will be our guest in the BookTalk chat room this Thursday at 9:00pm EST. You should attend this! We already had a chat discussion with Howard a few months ago about "The Lucifer Principle," so this one will focus on "Global Brain." If you would like to read a transcript of this past chat just look for the chat transcript thread in "The Lucifer Principle" forum. We will record a transcript of the chat on Thursday too...in the event that some people cannot attend.Howard Bloom is a fascinating person with a unique perspective on how people and nature operate. If you have the time and desire I recommend reading his "Global Brain" book too, but you don't need to read it to attend the chat Thursday. His ideas are controversial in the scientific community, and also here on BookTalk. Form your own opinions, but I doubt you can deny the man gets you to think deeply.Quote:Sorry about tracking dirt all over the carpet. As we grow and gain members we'll be tearing this carpet out and replacing it with 18" ceramic tile...much easier to keep clean. Chris Edited by: Chris OConnor  at: 3/2/03 5:12:00 pm
