I just read "Game of Thrones".

Very good stuff.

I hadn't heard of it before the HBO series started, and now i plan to read the books after each season is over.

That's probably backwards from the way most people would want to do things, but so far, aside from some lengthy s-exposition scenes, the show has stayed pretty faithful to the book.

I think George Martin does a great job of taking on the various voices of his characters. It's a great read so far, and i doubt it will get worse!

Just finished book 2. I'm going to take a short break ( a week maybe two) from it while I read some other books. It took me two weeks to read book 2.

I've read all of them except the last, which I am saving because he takes so long to release them!

Although many say the third is best, I personally haven't loved the others like I loved the first, though they are all great.

It's famously infuriating and addictive at the same time.
Stop describing what they are wearing for the hundredth time and tell me what is happening with Jon Snow! Ha ha ;)

I like these books for their grimy simulation of medieval politics. And I just love the world George Martin has built.
I liked the first book the best too. I think it's because in it Martin is actually trying to say something through this idea of the game of thrones.
The rest of the books feel like he got really excited with this new world he's created and decided to just run with it. I'm not complaining exactly, but I do worry sometimes that the story will never be concluded xD.

I'm a bit late to the game with this, I'm currently reading the third book. I like them, though. I think the world and the characters are very interesting. I also think he does a great job of keeping multiple plot lines going. I have to read other books in between, though, because, even though I find them interesting, I just don't go through the books that fast. There is that little something missing.

I've read up to book 6, an excellent series. I'm also watching series 2 of 'game of thrones' on DVD which are very close to the original books.
The books are well written with excellent descriptive text and very believable characters.

I got hooked on the series and I thought, hey, I should check out the books - and viola, the rest is history! What I love about the series is the kind of fantasy that I've missed. Most of the stuff in our local bookstores are romance-fantasy series. I kind of miss the Tolkien-esque feel, plus the dirty politics and unlikely heroes elements are never boring and predictable.
