Re: You call that journalism?
It is sad, and also somewhat ominous, when institutions that were formerly considered and important bulwark of society, whose employees considered themselves impartial professionals, are reduced to vehicles for taking cheap partisan shots, or even worse, considered as merely outlets for crass, lowbrow entertainment.
What gets a little surge of adrenalin going in my bloodstream is the likely possibility that many at FOX News, or its cousins, actually believe in what they are doing, and take themselves seriously. Now that’s something to ponder.

You get what you pay for. Edward R. Morrow or Walter Cronkite could not get a gig on the local news show in Boise Idaho today. We did it to ourselves. Part of what we did was reject institutions. We stopped believing what we heard on big-news broadcasts so big-news changed. It became in-your-face news because that is what we are "paying for" on the internet.
The talking heads got dumber because we want them dumber. I don't think it is because we are lazier. I think we are more wary. So we just watch and laugh at the fools on new-news and vet the information we need to live on ourselves.

O'Reilly and other bloated sacks of hot air like himself are the face of the Fox "News" Channel. Take a look at this video. Observe the nuance needed to be both outraged by and fully embrace a tactic... in no more than 5 seconds of air time.

Re: You call that journalism?
Fear mongering.
Newt Gingrich compares "secular socialists" with Nazi Germany and communist USSR. Then in this interview, he says that secular socialists ARE just like Nazis and Commies, but not really.
So, you get to link the democrats to "secular socialists" (a label i have never heard any of them utter) and then compare this boogie man label to America’s biggest fear lightning-rods of the last 70 years?
There is an element of disbelief in the tone of the Fox "news" anchor who interviews Newt, but not at all the "get this idiot off my stage" that should have been there.
"Obama is a closeted were-wolf! Every full moon his face is snared in a rectus of feral blood lust, and he leaps out the a second story window of the white house to prowl the night. He feasts on the blood of the innocent and when he finally comes down off his murder-frenzy high, he calls up Nanci Pelosi and she organizes the cover-up. All in the hopes that he will help her raise taxes with the explicit purpose of ending the middle class and helping their ivy-league, fat cat, sophisticates."
That was fun! No wonder they spend so little time talking about real problems. It is way easier to make things up and then attribute it to your enemies. And like Newt, if you are good enough at being disingenuous, you can call them Nazis and then deny you ever made that link in one sentence!

Fox news tipped its hat, donating directly to RNC campaigns. Fair and Balanced? How does a direct contribution of money to an election campaign from a news organization count as fair and balanced? Now they are scrubbing that info from wikipedia.

This is a good one.
Could you even imagine a more blatant lie from a "news" personality? Check in at 5:10 in the clip for the most obvious, shameful, tediously easy to falsify nonsense on fox "news". The whole clip is worth watching, but 5:10 should set the mood. HOW DOES THIS MAKE IT TO AIR?

Hannity, distinguished and professional journalist that he is, jumps up and starts humping this story without taking a single moment to doubt the truthfulness of
"Harry Reid voted to give viagra to pedophiles."
As espoused by his political opponent, and known crazy person, Sharon Angle.
It is then left to Mike Huckabee to offer tepid resistance to the concept.
