Would you like to test the new BookTalk.org Blogs?
We're looking for a small group of members to give our new blogs a test run. If you've been anxiously awaiting the new and improved blogs the time is finally here. But we'd like to make sure they are working properly before we unleash them on the entire community.
If you'd like to play around with this new exciting addition to BookTalk.org please make a brief post here. I'll email you a link to the new blogs page and you can get started creating your very own blog today. We're looking for people that have some experience with blogging so that we can focus our time on important issues that pop up, as opposed to spending time teaching people how to use blogs.
If you're interested leave a post right here and you will be contacted. Everyone that helps us test these blogs will be entered into a drawing for free books. We need you to create a blog and play around with every feature possible. Use Latin Filler text or copy and paste nonsense into your blog just to test posting and commenting. Once we go live you can delete the nonsense posts. Do not post anything inappropriate please.

I would love to test out the new BookTalk.org Blogs! I have managed 4 blogs so far right now, and I know I would love to manage another one. Especially when it's about books.

A few people have sent me PM's instead of posting here in this thread. Please don't send PM's. Just post right here so that I can keep this testing project organized. Once you post here I will PM you with the link to the blogs.

If you don't already have enough people I'd like to help test the blogs. :]

Re: Would you like to test the new BookTalk.org Blogs?
Chris, I'm not sure how much control you have over the blog site, but I have a very small issue that might be a problem for people who aren't really internet savvy.
Once you've finished writing a post and go to view it on your public blog page, there isn't a clear link to bring you back to the dashboard/editing page. The first time I corrected this by going into my history and clicking on the dashboard page, but that is far from convenient or a quick response kind of solution. The second way I returned to the dashboard was to click on my own name under the comments, where it says "Leave a response, you are logged in as bleachededen," and I clicked on that, knowing bleachededen was my username and the link that would take me back to my edit page. That may not always be on the page, especially if there are no comments, and even so, it's not the most obvious way to get back to the dashboard. This won't be so much a problem for me, but it may pose a problem to others who aren't as quick with websites or know where to look when the answer isn't obvious. I mean, I'd have no problem going back through my history if I had to, but that's certainly not what everyone's going to want to do, and to make the blogs popular, ease of use is probably something you want to pay attention to.
I don't know what you can do about this, but I thought I'd let you know, since this is still the testing phase. Like I said, it's not a huge problem for me, but it might flummox someone else. Hope this helps!

I've been out of town these past couple weeks, but if you need another tester for the blogs, I don't mind being a guinea pig.

Re: Would you like to test the new BookTalk.org Blogs?
Not sure if this is fixable or not...but when writing a post in the blog, I can't leave extra space between paragraphs. All I can do is start a new paragraph with a space between it, but I can't leave any extra spaces to separate one section from another or for "dramatic" effect or spoilers or whatnot. When pressing enter several times, I do see the space between paragraphs until I either save or update the post, and then the space is gone. I even tried to type the paragraph break code (<br>) several times in the HTML section, but the same thing happened: I can see the spaces until I save or update the post.
It's not a huge problem, but sometimes I do like to space out my paragraphs a bit, especially when I'm writing something long or unconnected to a previous paragraph. Let me know if this helps at all, or if there's anything you can to do to fix it. I can live without it, but I thought I'd let you know since we're all about testing the blogs here.

Re: Would you like to test the new BookTalk.org Blogs?
Thanks for pointing that out, Bleachededen. I have had that same problem on other WP blogs. We'll have David look at it and see if it can be fixed. He is working on the blogs right now. We're adding a "Quick Navigation Links" bar across the very top of every page so that you can easily get back to the forums and home page of BookTalk.org.
As far as the Admin link there is a widget that you can install in your sidebar that will put a link to your Admin control panel (dashboard) right where you need it. David is going to help with that too. It is not possible to put the Admin link in the sidebar for you. He has explained this and it is over my head. I agree that it sure would be nice to have an Admin link that quickly gets us into our dashboard. We'll figure something out.
Go to the main blogs page now and see our progress. You should have the URL.
