I actually got the book out of the library yesterday and after reading the first few pages, decided this was not something I wanted to read.

I've been enjoying it. I'm at a block right now in the chapter where Sherman appears.

I've read the first 80 pages or so. It's somewhat of a difficult read due to the author's style, but I'm enjoying the descriptions-you really can feel like you're right in that Civil War military cell! Looking forward to seeing how all these disparate characters connect.

Nice to see a new face, ldkrn. I'm going to play Chris' part for a moment and ask what brought you to BookTalk. Did the fiction reading specifically catch your interest? Or were there other aspects of the site that appealed to you?

And what should we call you? ldkrn isn't all that hard to type, but it's hard to pronounce. I sometimes like to yell at the monitor when I disagree with someone.

Hi, you can call me Lisa...my screenname is just a combination of initials and credentials and is easy for me to remember!
I actually originally came to the site this spring, but hadn't joined a discussion or posted until now. I had been a member of an "in person" book club that focused primarily on fiction novels-Jasmine, The Dancer-but commitments and work kept me from meetings and thus from being as active as I would have liked. So I went online, looking for a club with a progressive flavor whose book list I found appealing, and here I am! I'm looking forward to some great discussion and hopefully to learn something about critical reading and reflection in the process.
