What is existence

This board deals a lot with whether or not things exist. God, afterlives, abstract concepts. But what does existance really mean? How do we each define existence?

I fixed the typo

Existence: The fact or state of existing; being.

sounds pretty vague.

2 a : the state or fact of having being especially independently of human consciousness and as contrasted with nonexistence <the existence of other worlds> b : the manner of being that is common to every mode of being c : being with respect to a limiting condition or under a particular aspect
3 : actual or present occurrence <existence of a state of war>

Half those use the word existance to define itself. Or use synonyms.

Thats one of the only ones that doesn't, but is anything really independent of human consciousness?

Sure, but why do some people feel this lessens the reality of existence? It is just ridiculous, semantic, philosophical bullshit games. It is a way for those who want the supernatural to be 'real' to bring down to a lower level the solid evidence we all see...since there is no way to bring the 'make believe' up to a respectable level. It is just a way to cast doubt on everything so that anything is believeable.

Plato's Cave is a entertaining story, but it really means absolutely nothing, IMO.

And I am not going to make a go of this conversation...it is has been beaten to death IMO.
