I'm in agreement with Grim that attracting mobs of people is not in our best interest. I have no intention of doing anything to make BookTalk.org appealing to the masses. We are virtually spam-free and we all want to keep it that way. And we also all enjoy being somewhat of an intellectual community. This needs to stay the same so don't worry. We're on the same page.
The goal is to target people similar to you and I. So ads would have to be written, designed or created in a way that certain people would simply find nothing appealing about us. This is part of why I'm asking for help and feedback.
There are some business reasons for wanting to bring in more people. And I'm not talking about a need to turn a profit. I just want to come a little closer to breaking even and if we ever tip the scales to where BookTalk.org is earning more than we're spending the overage will go right back into BookTalk.org. This is my passion and not a business.
But as of right now I need more cash flowing into the community. With the addition of private ads, and the deletion of the Google AdSense ads, we should at least double our income within the next 6 months or so.
Here is a little secret...
I really want to get back into doing author interviews and chats. They are a ton of fun. But we need some more growth to support such live chats. I don't want to go into all the reasons for this, but please trust me that we had some issues with past chats where only 7 or 8 people showed up. This embarrassed me to no end. I have too much respect for authors to invite them to live chats where only a handful of our members care enough to stop by.

You're exactly the type of person I was hoping would step forward for this project. You're writing style is clean and effective. We'll talk some more about this press release issue soon. Thanks for offering your help. I really appreciate that.
