Roof Gardens in the City

Will asked me about roof gardens and if we had them in Toronto . . . well, I haven't been downtown a while, but I'm sure there must be some on the high rises.

I'm sure there are on the condos down at the lakeshore.

Something I did notice this year, and it might be because we had a lot of rain, dunno' . . . but it seems to me there's more green and flowering plants.

A lot of people are dispensing with keeping lawns and putting in shrubs and perennial flowering plants.

The parks and the beaches have much more wild growth . . . that is, the people who tend to these things make a point of putting in perennial plants that are native species.

Ah! Here's a link to rooftop gardening - this building's people got an award for this . . .

And here's a link to the Toronto Green Awards . . .

How about you folks - does your city/town have rooftop gardens?

Does Thoreau's story on gardening at Walden inspire you to green up?
