Those of you that have been discussing Walden deserve a hand. This has been one of the most active book discussions in quite a while, and I'm not blind to the fact that the success is owed to only a small handful of people. So good job guys.

This is why I'm turning to you. Is there a second book that you would like to read and discuss together? Pick anything you like and we can make it an official community discussion for October & November. If you plan to be as active in that discussion as Walden it would be a success. Let me know your thoughts.

If Lawrence could have been with us, we would have ascended to a higher level.

I think if we could pick a piece of book that had both philosophical as well as literary interest it would surely make for stimulate discussion. Walden is certainly such a book. So, what else is out there?

Here's an idea.
World Made by Hand by James Howard Kunstler

Synopsis

In the best-seller The Long Emergency, James Howard Kunstler explored how the terminal decline of oil production had the potential to put industrial civilization out of business. With World Made By Hand Kunstler makes an imaginative leap into the future, a few decades hence, and shows us what life may be like after these coming catastrophes....[/url]

Doesn't it make sense to do some 'Emerson' after 'Thoreau'?

Just a thought.

And I forgot to say . . . thanks to you too, Chris for your efforts here - for staying in touch with us all, even thought you were caught up in the storms - hope it all went well for you and your family.
