Please help me with an essay prompt about the tenses changin

While the first three parts of the novel are written in the past tense, the final part is written in present tense. What do you think was the author’s intent in making this shift? How does it change the effect of this final section?

I really don't get this

It might take a long time to get a reply to this post because we discussed this book several years ago. This forum is now in our archives. I wish our discussions lasted forever, but we do eventually move on to other books.
