Hume is considered by professional philosophers to have completely destroyed the "argument from design" nearly 250 years ago - strange that we still hear that argument... This article isn't about that, just thought I'd mention it as part of his impressive "pedigree".Here's a tasty quote - it would take brass cojones to utter something like this even nowadays...Quote:Thus it may safely be affirmed, that popular religions are really, in the conception of their more vular votaries, a species of demonism; and the higher the deity is exalted in power and knowledge, the lower of course is he depressed in goodness and benevolence; whatever eptithets of praise may be bestowed on hime by his amazed adorers.
