I had forgotten what a wonderful writer Darrow was. Although the immediate threat is over, the battle for our government goes on.I have already used arguments from this essay in conversation in the "real world". "IF", Darrow asks, "Seven christians form a corporation, how many souls are there to be 'saved'? Seven, or Eight?" Of course it is seven, even from the christian's point of view. Our nation is analogous. Regardless of what world-view an individual uses to guide her life, the country as a whole is (supposed to be) governed by us, not any other "power", real or imagined. My personal conviction is very simple... "god" should not be involved in affairs of state, because there is no god to be involved. However this argument is quite useless against beleivers, and immediately sends the conversation off on a tangent.Darrow, who obviously dislikes religion as much as I do, presents much more effective arguments for keeping religion out of politics.
