The Art of Hanging -- New Book, Humor/Self-Help

Unread post

Hi, Town Andrews posting.

This is my new book. It's quite unlike anything that's ever been published before. And yet, it's a derivative work. Literally, that's what it is.

I used The Art of Dating, a 1958 dating guide that is now in the public domain. I changed the title to The Art of Hanging, because according to many sociological articles and websites and blog posts dating is dead, replaced by hanging. I found replacements in modern vernaculars for date, the person you go hanging with, and then went on to replace many thousands of 1958 terms and phrases with slang, jargon, and catchphrases inspired by surferdudes, valley girls, Ebonics, urban slang, and everything from office doubletalk to cowboy slang to gangster noir.

As a result the prim but solid 1950's social etiquette rhetoric slams frequently into jarring and organic streetspeak, which seems, in an odd way, to knock the average funnybone a solid sideways whack, especially when read aloud, in small groups.

It is that odd book, a truly social book, even a party book.

It's available in all the usual ways, my website, Amazon, by order at any bookstore.

Here's a little picture of it:

Town Andrews has been kind enough to donate a few copies of his book to be used as awards in contests and book giveaways. I'll add this book to the Books Available for Giveaways in the Contests & Book Giveaways forum. Thank you, Town.
