Hanson reaction

Unread post

So, what did you think of the Hanson chat? Here's my reaction.First of all, it was neat to converse with the well-known author of an essay I disagreed with. That's not an opportunity I had before.I didn't confront him with my opinions, and he didn't take the bait when I nudged him towards my disagreement. Basically, he strongly opposes "top-heavy" structures. However, as a liberal, I strongly support many government actions, such as business regulation, environmental regulation, building infrastructure, research, and helping the less fortunate. Though Hanson didn't say so explicitly, his philosophy conflicts with those government programs.

JulianI thought the chat went well, but I was a bit dissappointed in the turn-out. We only had a total of 10 people in the chat room. I was expecting 15 to 20 at the least. It appears we had a problem with members receiving the reminder emails, but I really hope everyone isn't dependent on them to keep abreast of author chats. We do have a section on our Home page for "Upcoming Live Author Chats" where dates and times are provided.Hanson is quite friendly and entertaining. Hopefully we'll read one of his books for a quarterly reading and have him back as our guest.Chris
