i don't have the book in front of me, so I can't point to the exact reference, but it seemed to me that there were a number of spots where I felt I was reading Catch-22! Card seems to have lifted some of the 'damned of you do and damned if you don't' elements out of that book.I'm also surprised at the fight (I think it's in this section) with the older kid, particularly that Ender kills him. It's pretty hard to imagine a smaller kid killing a buff one with that many years on him. Just a bit incredulous.

Really? I grew up in Brooklyn and saw many small Italian guys more than hold their own in a fight against bigger guys. Size does not matter. I am not too big, but I will make sure that I win in any fight I am in...no matter what I have to do.It is all about Ender's will and tactics. The big guy was a bull, Ender the Matador.Mr. P. The one thing of which I am positive is that there is much of which to be negative - Mr. P.Once you perceive the irrevocable truth, you can no longer justify the irrational denial. - Mr. P.The pain in hell has two sides. The kind you can touch with your hand; the kind you can feel in your heart...Scorsese's "Mean Streets"I came to kick ass and chew Bubble Gum...and I am all out of Bubble Gum - They Live, Roddy Piper

mr p,I don't mean to suggest the bigger guy always wins. Look at pro boxing! But to take two persons trained to fight, and give one 3 or more years of physical development, and I think the odds are pretty small. Unless the older person is unprepared or underestimates the younger one.I'm pretty sure no on underestimates ender by this point!
