And I might even volunteer to be a moderator. After all, I have read the book before.

I didn't realize that this book was first published in 1934, so we'll probably find quite a few people that have already read it. So what did you think of it? And let us know about being the Discussion Leader...whenever you decide.

I've never read it before, but I'm already devouring it. Fun book. "All beings are the owners of their deeds, the heirs to their deeds." Loricat's Book NookCelebrating the Absurd

I know you're not much into fiction, Tara, but this book should prove to be an awesome read and more like a history book then a novel. It is historical fiction, afterall.

I've just finished reading it. I don't read a lot of historical fiction but I enjoyed reading this one. I found the coverage of the family history a little too detailed at times, and trying to follow the myriads of schemes did become a little tedious, but overall a good read, especially for someone not very familiar with Roman history. I read the sequel Claudius the God as well and I found that it raised more interesting questions than did I, Claudius for the reason that it dealt more directly with the issues relating to how power should be used. I won't give away what happens in the sequel but the development of the sequel from the first book was nicely done; I was surprised when I realised where the sequel was going. If you've made it through I, Claudius, I'd recommend reading the sequel as well.

No kidding. I devoured I, Claudius (but will go back and re-read it to fully digest the convoluted family trees!), and picked up the sequel the other day... "All beings are the owners of their deeds, the heirs to their deeds." Loricat's Book NookCelebrating the Absurd
