Is this a worthwhile book to read?

Unread post

I have watched the adaptation of this book and enjoyed it very much. I am interested in reading this book and was wondering if I should bother with it.
It seems like good book with an interesting premise but seeing as I have an unusually large to read pile I don’t want to invest time in a novel that will disappoint . :x

Did you mention the title of the book? Am I missing something, what book are you referring to?

You're talking about "The Road," right? It is very worthwhile! :)

Good plot, great description... it's not a "difficult" book by any means, although the subject matter is dark.

Ah, live like it's the style.

I guess I should have made it more clearer that I was indeed referring to The Road.

:x

I guess I will have to give it a go very soon.

Thanks for the replies. :D

I just watched the movie with my wife and we were pretty disappointed. We started watching it a few days ago and we turned it off because of how slow going it was, but then we decided tonight to give it another shot. So tonight we watched the second half of the movie.

All along I was hoping that the father and son would join up with another larger group migrating south. And then eventually we were thinking the larger group would arrive at an area with more people and less despair and darkness. I guess I just wanted something positive to happen. Them simply joining another family isn't exactly exciting to me.

Yeah, I didn't like the movie as much as the book.

I've read the book but I haven't watched the movie, which I've heard a lot of mixed opinions for. I personally didn't find it very interesting. Although, I still somehow found it enjoyable, probably because it's quite an easy read. I just found that not much happens throughout the novel; It doesn't use the standard intro-problem/climax-conclusion layout, its as if it stays in the introduction and your waiting for something to happen.
I would recommend it, but only for a very light read. And anyone who is searching for a hidden meaning within the story I believe Cormac McCarthy said himself that "It's just a story".

It's a thought provoking book. It made me realize how woefully unprepared we are for any type of cataclysmic event. It also was a good barometer for measuring what my response would be if I found myself in similar situations....The book was much better than the movie.

Since you show the movie , I would recommend you read Blood Meridian by the same author instead of The Road.
