I am not yet finished with this chapter but I find it FASCINATING! First of all, I like his idea of how our pasttimes and hobbies fulfill some sort of atavistic part of us.And this idea he talks on of mycophiles and mycophobes ..... it is true in MY experience that people have very strong feelings either way. I, for one, am a mycophile. And after reading this chapter, I intend to explore this even more.

What I like about this chapter is the 'secret handshake' aspect of the mushroom gathering community. The casual changing of subject, the not-so-joking "I'd have to kill you" comments...I wonder if that's because everyone knew he was writing a book (oooh, their secret spots in a book!), or if that's just normal?
