having learned so much....

I finished the book! I haven't read non-fiction in AGES and I really couldn't put this book down!I think one of the most important things Pollan discussed (and what I am going to try to take with me) was the true cost of a meal. And who actually really pays for it.I am now on a quest to try to eat seasonally, to explore mushrooms a bit more, to really delve into the local resources we have out here, and to think about my meals more.My brother goes to a boarding school in Iowa which is on a self-sufficient farm. I visited recently and after every meal, they announce what came from the farm and everyone applauds. I really enjoyed thinking of my meals that way and am glad to know that there are pockets of people out there that do so.

I think it's more than pockets...more like saddlebags, or backpacks of people. Once you're tapped into that way of thinking, you'll find help.I'm a little nervous about the mushroom thing myself -- I would never learn it from a book, that's for sure. Keep us posted on what you're doing in that respect.Anyway -- it's winter. Think winter produce -- apples, potatoes, squash, onions, beans...I just checked epicurious.com for winter recipes: www.epicurious.com/recipes/find/browse/ ... se&att=157 "All beings are the owners of their deeds, the heirs to their deeds."
