Thanks for this post, Suzanne. I watch it and several others. The director of the German cut seems to have been able to bring Grass' humor into the film nicely.

Technically and stylistically, The Tin Drum is an astounding work. Thematically, it strives for an importance it only sometimes achieves

Have you read the book? We read it here for our last fiction selection. I couldn't drum up much sympathy for the protagonist.
